What is Ready for Action Therapy?

Ready for Action Therapy is an outdoor-based pediatric therapy practice that helps kids grow stronger, calmer, and more confident through movement and nature. We combine occupational therapy, exercise science, and play in the great outdoors to support physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

How is adventure therapy different from traditional therapy?

Instead of working in a clinic, we take therapy outside—into parks, trails, and open spaces. Nature provides real-world challenges, natural sensory input, and freedom to move. This helps kids engage more deeply, focus better, and practice skills that truly transfer to daily life.

What happens in bad weather?

We embrace the elements when it’s safe—rain and snow can offer great learning opportunities! However, in extreme conditions, sessions may be rescheduled or moved to a sheltered location.

What ages do you work with?

We typically work with children and teens ages 5–17, adjusting activities to meet each child’s developmental level and abilities.

Do parents participate in sessions?

Parents are welcome to observe or join in, depending on the child’s comfort level. We also provide feedback and home strategies so you can continue supporting your child’s growth between sessions.

Do you take insurance?

Ready for Action Therapy is a private-pay practice. We offer superbills to help families get reimbursed by their insurance. For need-based scholarships, please contact us.

Who benefits from services?

We provide specialized therapeutic services tailored for children with a diverse range of abilities, including deficits in physical, emotional, sensory, intellectual, or any combination thereof.

We provide comprehensive support in the following areas: movement planning and coordination, muscle strength development, confidence building, self-control enhancement, resilience training, cognitive skills improvement, focus and problem-solving abilities, fine and gross motor skills, balance, body awareness, flexibility, sensory processing, vestibular system function, tactile awareness, anxiety and fear management, trust development, communication skills, achievement of growth milestones, social skills, adherence to instructions, and gross strength enhancement.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place in welcoming, easy-to-reach outdoor spots, community hubs, or the cozy comfort of your own home. Think climbing gyms, vibrant parks, and scenic nature trails. We handpick each location to perfectly suit your child’s comfort, goals, and the season’s vibe.

Is it safe for my child to do therapy outdoors?

Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. Sessions are led by a licensed therapist with wilderness emergency medical training. We use thorough risk assessments, carry safety gear, and maintain small group sizes or individual therapy sessions for close supervision.

Who provides the therapy?

All sessions are led by a licensed occupational therapist with a background in exercise science, wilderness medicine, and outdoor leadership. This unique combination ensures therapy that’s both safe and effective in natural settings.

How do you measure progress?

Progress is tracked through observation, parent feedback, and ongoing communication. When appropriate, we also use standardized tools to measure growth in motor, emotional, and sensory skills.
